About the Layers
The map includes seven layers that can be toggled on/off to explore specific themes:

All Weapon Homicides (2006–2024)
Derived from multiple open sources, most notably murdermap.co.uk, this layer includes all known weapon-enabled homicides across London.

Homicides (Age 13–19)
A subset highlighting youth victims aged 13 to 19.

Homicides (Age 20–24)
A subset highlighting young adult victims aged 20 to 24.

Firearm Homicides
All known homicides where a firearm was the primary weapon.

Urban Street Gang Locations (2022)
Based on open-source intelligence, including publicly available content from YouTube and other social media platforms.

Urban Street Gang Locations (2009–2012)
A historical view of gang locations compiled using similar open-source methods.

London Boroughs
Base boundary layer from the ONS Geoportal, included to support spatial context and borough-level reference.
Purpose
The map is designed to support:
- Exploratory analysis of spatial patterns in serious violence
- Place-based approaches to violence prevention
- Public understanding of the long-term geography of homicides and gang presence in London
It combines open data, QGIS-based mapping, and web visualisation (via qgis2web) to make this content accessible and interactive.
